Xero Shoes Mesa Summit Trail Shoe Review

I got to test out the Xero Shoes Mesa Summit trail shoe. Like all Xero Shoes, this one is lightweight, flexible, and has a wide toe box. There’s zero drop from the back to the front of the shoe. This shoe was built for hikers, trail runners, and outdoor movers who want more protection without giving up natural movement.

But sometimes that much flexibility has left outdoor movers feeling a little too exposed on terrain full of rocks or roots (read: Umstead).

This particular shoe has a new ESS rock guard, so there’s actually a bit more protection without sacrificing mobility. There’s also an abrasion- and debris-resistant mesh upper. I tested out the waterproof version (look for the label “WP” if that’s what you want) and it included a “debris collar” as they call it, so even when walking through wet leaves and twigs, nothing got inside my shoe.

Somehow, the waterproof shoe didn’t leave my feet feeling like they were suffocating.

If you’re looking for your next great hiking shoe, the Mesa Summit is probably it.
