Some of the most frequently asked questions are often related to misconceptions about chiropractic care in Raleigh and what chiropractors in Raleigh do. If your question isn’t listed here, please feel free to contact Dr. Mumma.
Why should I see a chiropractor in Raleigh?
The reasons to see a chiropractor vary almost as much as techniques vary from one chiropractor to another. Some seek chiropractic care in Raleigh NC to alleviate muscle, joint, or disc pain, or to get treatment for headaches. Others are looking to improve their physical performance for sporting events. Some benefit from a heightened immune system while under care. Others prefer to see a chiropractor to try to maintain overall wellness and minimize the number of drugs or trips to the MD they take. Others see a Raleigh chiropractor because they aren’t quite sure who else to see. All of these are typical reasons to see a chiropractor, and all of them make perfect sense! Even if chiropractic care in Raleigh isn’t what your case requires, a chiropractor is a great resource to figure out who else might better assist you, and they can refer you to another professional.
Is a chiropractor a real doctor?
Yes, chiropractors are real doctors. Chiropractors attend chiropractic college for four years after completing specific undergraduate requirements. While chiropractic college and medical school are similar, chiropractors spend more time on anatomy and manual therapy and medical doctors spend more time on pathology and pharmacology. Chiropractors must also pass five national board exams and state exams in order to get licensed to practice. Dr. Mumma holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate.
What happens during a chiropractic adjustment?
People often hear and feel a “popping” noise during an adjustment. Rest assured, your bones are NOT cracking or popping back into place. The popping noise is likely a displacement of gases within the fluid surrounding the joints, but no bones are moving back “in,” nor were your bones ever “out.” During an adjustment or mobilization, chiropractors are restoring normal motion to joints that are fixated (stuck) due to various reasons such as posture, repeated stressors, or trauma. If you’d prefer not to hear that “popping” sound, Dr. Mumma has other ways of adjusting or mobilizing your joints that might make you more comfortable.
If I see a chiropractor once, will I have to go forever?
The short answer is no. You can certainly cease care once you’re feeling better, but oftentimes people choose to continue seeing their chiropractor after the initial reason for their visit is resolved. The benefits of a more fully functioning neuromusculoskeletal system are innumerable, and people often realize how much their overall function has improved after seeking chiropractic care. That being said, you will work out a treatment plan with Dr. Mumma that best suits your individual case. Every patient is different, so there are no cookie cutter treatment plans at Triangle Chiropractic and Rehab. Dr. Mumma will not only provide you with excellent care in the office, she will give you important information to help you make better lifestyle decisions that will get you on the road to better health.
